Description

This Soundproof, Fully Mortised, Automatic Door Bottom will provide an excellent seal needed to retain your door's sound rating. The aluminum casing is fitted with a double solid neoprene insert. The casing is designed to fit Hollow Metal Doors, but can be used for Wooden Doors, too.

The mortised aspect of this door bottom is great for designer doors and high end, luxury condos, since the appearance of the door is not altered. It is non-handed and can be applied directly over the floor surface or above a doorway saddle. For high sound control abilities, a saddle is recommended. (A saddle is also highly recommended when the door bottom is applied above an uneven surface, such as carpet or textured tiles). Available in aluminum mill finish and length is custom cut to size, up to 60".

Installation instructions and screws provided.

How it Works:

This product utilizes a concealed flat mechanism which is activated by the pressure of closing the door (The brass nut at the head gets pushed in by the door jamb and that lowers the seal).  The high quality neoprene seal drops, filling gaps up to .50”, upon the closing of door to create a tight seal and raises automatically when the door is opened to ensure smooth door operation. Our door bottoms have been tested through 5 million cycles and provide the same excellent quality as our surface mounted and semi-mortised automatic door bottoms.

Automatic Door bottom can be trimmed on the field up to 3-6" depending on the size ordered, see installation guide.

Note: We recommend trying to keep the gap between the door and the floor at no more than 3/8" for maximum sound sealing. Larger gaps can be treated with a doorway saddle, or an added wood strip to the underside of the door.

This model is recommended for interior residential doors. For situations requiring a better seal please see our Mortised Heavy Duty Automatic Door Bottom.

Installation Guide

This Automatic Door Bottom is mostly applied to Hollow Metal Doors, though it can also be applied to Wooden Doors. Hollow Metal doors are generally provided with a channel on the underside of the door which will fit this automatic door bottom for easy installation. If your door comes with a hollow channel you can skip to Step 2 of the installation guide.

STEP 1: PREPARE YOUR DOOR BOTTOM

Prepare Your Door

This step is not required for most hollow metal doors, as most hollow metal doors are provided with a channel under the door.

Remove door and cut mortise in bottom of door as per the dimensions of the provided product specs (see Figure 1).

NOTE: If a door is fire labeled or of special construction, mortise preparation must be done by the door manufacturer.

STEP 2: MEASURE AND TRIM YOUR DOOR BOTTOM

Measure Your Door

Measure your door from side to side, that is the length required for your Door Bottom (see Figure 2).

Trim Your Door Bottom Once you have you determine the size needed, if necessary, trim your door bottom. Use a chop saw or table saw to create a perfectly straight cut.

Note, Only trim opposite the actuating plunger, brass nut. (Trimming from the brass nut side will ruin your ADB). You can trim from the edge up to one inch of the screw on the side wall of the ADB (see Figure 3).

STEP 3: APPLY YOUR AUTOMATIC DOOR BOTTOM

Apply Your Door Bottom

With door removed from opening, install the door bottom with plunger at the hinge side, fasten with screws provided and install door in opening (see Figure 4).

STEP 4: ADJUSTING YOUR AUTOMATIC DOOR BOTTOM

Adjust Your Door Bottom

Screw the actuating plunger in or out as required until the gasketing just touches the sealing surface when the door is closed (see Figure 5). It is not necessary to squash the gasket to provide an effective seal.

Once you have followed through with all the instructions your Automatic Door Bottom is good to go! Enjoy years of quality sound, draft and light infiltration control with your new door bottom.
