How It Works:

TMS Value Silent Sound Clips - A237 are sound isolation clips used to mechanically separate the connection points between drywall and the ceiling/wall structure.  It creates an opportunity for drywall furring channel to be introduced in the building framing structure.  When used with standard furring channel, A237 clips can be used to extend space between walls to allow for running pipes , electrical wires and/or insulation between the walls.

A237 Brackets are a cheaper option over A237R as there is no rubber isolation insert.  They are a budget-friendly isolation clip that is ideal for projects where sound isolation is not critical but physical separation of the wall from the studs is necessary.  They have been acoustically tested in wall systems and add assurance that your projects acoustical performance will improve substantially.

For a higher STC rating, see our TMS Silent Clips - A237R

Can be used in conjunction with 7/8" or 1 1/2" furring channel for effective noise control.  Installation is easy, simply replace standard fasteners with TMS Silent Brackets.  Brackets have a 1/4" hole to fit a variety of fasteners.

Features:

  • Simple design; adaptable to hundreds of applications.
  • Consistent and reliable quality; manufactured under ISO9001 quality control system.
  • Can be used to suit 7/8" and 1 1/2" furring channels.
  • A237 clips are provided with a 1/4" hole for a variety of fasteners

Applications:

  • Multi-family housing
  • Mixed use commercial buildings
  • Studios
  • Home Theatres

How Many To Order:

Clips can be spaced up to 48" apart with spacing of up to 24" between channels.  When using this spacing, divide the square footage of the area to be treated by 5.  That will give a rough estimate of the amount of clips needed.  In most cases you will need to compensate for being within 6" to walls/ceilings so we have found that calculating the squeare footage by 23% should get you close to the amount of clips needed.  See Installation Tab above for layout digram.

Installation for Resilient Mount Clips

  • Clips shall not exceed 48" on center
  • Spacing between hat channels shall not exceed 24"
  • Fasten the clips to the substrate with a fastener approved for a minimum pull-out and shear of 120 Lbs.
  • Locate the bottom row of clips within 3" of the floor.
  • (May be adjusted lower to accommodate installation of baseboard.)
  • Hat Channels are installed horizontal to the floor.
  • Use a 4' level to ensure that clips and furring channels are installed horizontal and level.
  • Install the drywall vertically from the bottom up leaving a 1/4" thick gap around the perimeter of the wall

Note: only remove the shims after all the gypsum board is completely screwed to all furring channels.

Step 5:

Use acoustical caulk around the entire perimeter of each wall (See Figure 3.3)

Q&A

Customers Questions and Answers

1) ethan: when the clips and the HAT channel are combined what is the height?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: 1-3/8"

2) Jay K: Hello, I'm in the process of building a theater room. I want to use clips and channel for the ceiling. The ceiling will be 23 x 29. I believe that means I should order 154 clips and 47 hat channels. Is that correct?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: Yes that is correct.

3) Lucas: What is the STC rating of these value clips when installed on a wood joist ceiling with the 7/8" Hat channel, then one layer of gypsum drywall? Do the whisper clips or the A237R clips have a significantly better STC value in this residential setting?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: It is actually pretty good and based on similar clips testing. The other will perform at about 2-4 STC points better.
