Description

Acoustical Pads are designed for those who seek perfection in their soundproofing project. Electrical outlet boxes are a commonly overlooked area, and if not properly secured, soundwaves can easily penetrate the boxes and drastically compromise the soundproof properties of the wall. These pads are molded around the boxes to ensure your wall retains its proper STC performance.

Putty pads are UL fire rate and can be used in fire rated walls. The intumescent fire stop properties which will prevent the spread of fire, up to 2 hours. See Technical Data Sheet for more details.

Pads dimensions are 7" x 7.25" x 1/8" and are peel and stick. Simply peel the paper off the pads and attach around the outlet, cutting where necessary to allow for wire penetrations.

Installation Guide

Application Procedures

  1. Remove product label from one side of pad. Align the side of the pad with the electrical box partially overlapping the stud and adhere.

  2. If the gypsum wallboard is already in place, pack putty into gaps between the electrical box and gypsum wall slightly overlapping the inner wallboard surface. If the wallboard is to be installed after the putty installation, overlap the front edge of the electrical box so that the putty pad will be compressed around the edges of the box as the wallboard is installed. Where cables or conduit are encountered, cut slits in the pad to fit around the obstructions.

  3. Press pad firmly to surface of top, bottom, and sides of the electrical box.

  4. Trim excess putty and apply to conduit fittings connected to box. Remove the exposed label. Putty may also be packed inside of conduit fittings to restrict the passage of smoke.

Comments about Acoustical Putty Pads:
On the approach side of using quietwall drywall between two bedrooms, so haven't gotten Accoustical Putty to the electrical boxes yet, but -it'll work based on what I've seen. Used the putty to hot water radiators that had big gaps in the wooden floor to accomodate the pipe. Acoustical Putty Pads cut easily, went around the pipe easily, and allows the finish ring cap cover to go right back. Oh, and I better use a strip of Accoustical Putty under the storm window, from the inside. That was easy. Works great everyplace. We should be doing these things as we go along, fixing noise and insulation problems that were never addressed by the builder, yet we live with the headache every day. When you have these fairly priced materials on hand, you can upgrade and devise uses for soundproofing as you go along. Putty pads are easy to work with, pliable, odorless, and no waste like you'd have with a caulk gun made for material in tubes. No waste. None.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Q&A

Customers Questions and Answers

1) robert oconnor: Hi, can I use ths product on HVAC duct end fittings that are attached to flexduct?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply:

Yes. It can be used there.

2) Philip B: Pads- Can this product be used over high hat lights in the ceiling ? My concern would be the heat accumulation. Thanks !

Trademark Soundproofing Reply:

It seals it up well so if heat accumulation is a concern this would not be the product you are looking for. Take a look at our recessed light cover for soundproofing.

3) Kyler G: Would this be suitable for a circuit board? It would probably need 4 of them

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: Yes. You can put a few of them together overlapping each other at the edges.

4) Ariosto A: What is the weight of every putty pad? Thank you.

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: 6.24 Ounce (.39 of a pound)

5) Kathryn: Can acoustical putty pads be used on the outer side of airtight recessed lighting trim (like these: Airtight Recessed Baffle Trim, https://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-6-in-White-Airtight-Recessed-Baffle-Trim-6-Pack-HBR635WHA-6PK/202993856)? I need to decrease sound transmission from a finished basement to the main floor. THe basement has about six can lights in the living room.

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: Yes it can be used on the outer side of these (but not on the top where it blocks the airflow).

6) Pam: Any chance these pads can prevent secondhand cigarette smoke from entering my through the outlet? Also, the box seal product on the printable sheet does not look like the one from the video. The one on the printable is flat but on the video the seal had ridges. I bought the flat pads like on the printable sheet at the hardware. They are cheap and non effective.

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: Yes these create an air seal as well. The ones we sell have the ridges around the front edges and in the back to create an air tight seal.
