Description

Are you looking to soundproof a Building, Home or Room without breaking the bank? Our RSIC-V Value Clip is the ideal solution. The clip offers good soundproofing properties at great, budgeted pricing!

The RSIC-V Value Clip is designed for new construction, in framed applications where noise control is required. The Clip is applied with a Drywall Furring / Hat Channel assembly which decouples the gypsum board from the structure, thereby creating a floating structure and giving the assembly enhanced acoustical performance.

How it Works:

RSIC-V Value Clips and Hat Channels are used in the process of decoupling walls and/or ceilings from the joists, creating what is called a floating wall or ceiling. The Clips are generally spaced every 48” OC, making the contact between the studs and boards minimal. This break in the path greatly reduces the amount of noise that travels from one side to the other since there is no direct connection for sound to travel via the joists.

The RSIC-V decouples the gypsum board from the structure stopping STC and IIC vibrations from entering the space adjacent.

Product Features:

RSIC-V Value Clips have an acoustical design load of 36 lbs per isolator, and can support up to 2 layers of 5/8" gypsum board when spaced no more that 24" x 48" OC. When spaced at 16” OC, it can support up to 3 layers of 5/8” gypsum board.

The RSIC-V clip fastens directly to the framing or structure and is compatible with wood framed, steel framed, CMU, or concrete wall and or ceiling systems.

The RSIC-V systems have several UL fire resistive design assemblies from ranging one hour to four hours. When applied in specific assemblies an STC Rating of 58 - 64 can be acheived, see our Product Testing Sheet for more information. The RSIC-V Value Clip is an economical clip, and if the first of its kind that is Classified UL Listed for both Fire and Sound!

How Many Do I Need?

You can space the clips up to 48" apart and up to 24" between the channels. When spaced that way, take the square footage of the area to be treated and divide by 5. That should give a rough estimate of the amount of clips needed. Usually you will be using some more to compensate for being within 6" to walls/ceilings so we have found that calculating your square footage by 23% should get you close to the amount of clips you need. See Installation Tab to the right for a layout diagram.

Installation for Walls and Ceilings:

Installation of RSIC-V Value Clip on Walls

Installation of RSIC-V Value Clip on Ceiling

WALLS AND CEILINGS:

  • RSIC-V Value Clips shall be applied 48” OC maximum, horizontal.

  • Fasten the RSIC-V Value Clip to the substrate with a fastener approved (see above) for a minimum pull-out and shear of 120 Lbs.

  • Ensure the RSIC-V Value Clip is tight to the substrate.

  • For Walls: Locate the first row of RSIC-V clips within 3” from the floor and within 6” from the ceiling.

  • For Ceilings: Locate the first row of RSIC-V Value Clips within 8” of the wall at each end of a run.

  • Snap in the Drywall Furring Channel (Hat Track) into the RSIC-V Value Clips (horizontal for walls).

  • For Walls: Place 1/4” (minimum) shim on floor to fully support the gypsum board.

  • Install the gypsum board from the bottom up leaving a 1/4” minimum gap around perimeter of wall.

  • Important: ONLY remove the shims after ALL the gypsum boards are completely screwed to ALL the drywall furring channels.

  • Make sure every screw (floor to ceiling and wall to wall) is installed as required by the assembly design, in every layer of gypsum board before removing the shims at the floor. The shims are critical for a floating wall system and ensure the best results.

  • Caulk around the perimeter of the wall. Use fire and smoke rated Acoustical Sealant where required.

  • For Ceilings: Install the gypsum board leaving a 1/4” min. gap around perimeter of the ceiling.
