Description

A grid ceiling can at times be the only option for new or retrofit construction. However the problem is, it does not create a very soundproof structure. By simply adding a Ceiling Tile Sound Barrier you can significantly improve the STC rating of your ceiling grid at a low cost without compromising the appearance of your ceiling.

How it Works:

The Ceiling Tile Sound Barrier is made of combined Fire Rated 1 LB Mass Loaded Vinyl, which acts as a sound barrier and 1” Fiberglass, which absorbs the sound. Sound waves originating from the source will be initially absorbed by the fiberglass and then blocked by the mass loaded vinyl. Any reflected sound wave component will be further dissipated into the fiberglass absorber. The fiberglass also provides thermal and vibration insulation, resulting in a more insulated environment.

The Ceiling Tile Sound Barrier is available in pre-cut sizes, see above, and are designed to fit directly above your existing ceiling tiles. No cutting or special equipment is necessary for installation. Simply place above your ceiling tiles and expect to see immediate results!

Features:

  • For new or retrofit construction
  • Designed to fit above existing tiles
  • Will not affect appearance of ceiling
  • Available in 24”x24” or 24”x48” tiles (Custom Sizes Available, contact us at 845-388-1200)
  • Easy installation, no special equipment needed
  • Combines sound barrier and absorption
  • 1 LB MLV and 1” Fiberglass material
  • Fire Rated - ASTM E-84 Class 1

I used whisper clips and hat channel, green glue and ceiling soundproofing for my VO and podcast studio. TM had a vast array of knowledge and I highly recommend them.

Customers Questions and Answers

1) Kim Linquist: Can these panels be placed on existing wall? Can gg be applied between existing wall and the panels?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply:

Hi Kim. These panels are not meant to be used on a wall. If you are looking for wall panels please see our Acoustic Panels here. Green Glue would not be effective on either one of them.

2) Joe M: Can I cut this material? If so, how do you cut it? How thick is it?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: Hi Joe, Yes it can be cut with a utility knife and a straight edge. It is about half inch thick.

3) Trisha A: To prevent low frequency noise (bass guitar or bass speaker) from travelling from basement to floor above, when there is a dropped ceiling between levels, is this the only product needed? Or is insulation required as well?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: Hi Trish, This product has insulation bonded to it, so technically you do not need to add more although it would enhance the sound absorption.

4) Asad : what is the quantity in one box and what is the price of one box

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: Hi Asad, These are sold per piece. Thank you.

5) Kenny S: i have 2 layers of drywall on ceiling, can they be installed on the ceiling? or is it only for drop down ceiling.. thank you

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: Hi Kenny, These can be used in any way you fancy. If you can figure out a way to get it to hold on your drywall ceiling and you think it will help by all means try it. You may be better off getting a complete roll of the material if you can just lay it out.

6) Erwin V: Hello, My need is to reduced the sound produced by my grand piano, so the idea to fix some sound absorbing panels underneath and a few above it [I mean - directly within the piano, not on the ceiling. The product which your propose [ceiling tile sound barrier] seems interesting. I understood that the Fiberglass should absorb the sound waves [attenuate] but then there is also the Foil of Vinyl. I believe that this Vinyl foil will then reflect BACK part of the sound. Can you further explain this ? Best regards, Erwin

Trademark Soundproofing Reply:

The vinyl foil will "block" sound. If all your looking for is to absorb sound then you should be looking at the acoustical panels that we carry.

7) carolyn: So, these ceiling tiles, are they placed on top of the exiting ceiling tiles? The existing ceiling tiles are much longer than these. So, these would go on top of the ones already there regardless of the size? Thanks

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: Yes. These sit on top of existing tiles. We have 2x2 and 2x4 tiles to match most standard ceiling tiles. If you have a different size let us know.

8) sree: how is this better than just squares of MLV placed on top of the existing ceiling tiles ? thx

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: This has fiberglass bonded to it so it has absorption added to it (and decouples the MLV). It also has a fire rated foil face on the other side.

9) Marilyn: I don't have a drop ceiling. Can these tiles be direct mounted on my drywall ceiling?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply:

You want the fiberglass to go towards the ceiling so it would be sort of difficult to mount that. You should consider using Mass Loaded Vinyl.

10) Kim H: Is your $39 price, per 2" tile?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: Yes. 24" x 24" x 2" tile

11) Reddy: Hi, my son is 2 yr old and his screaming is very loud. we live on 1st floor. neighbours who live above us have problem with his noise. How do I stop his voice not reaching above the ceiling? I have a dry wall in my condo.

Trademark Soundproofing Reply:

Hi Reddy. Please see this article discussing soundproofing existing ceilings.

12) Bret D: Is the price listed for a single tile?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: Yes.

13) George F: what finish is on the back side..?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: One side is scrim faced fiberglass and the other side is a foil faced backing

14) George F: can this tile be used WITHOUT original tile below it

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: Not unless it has some support as it is too flexible and will fall out.

15) George: If the foil faced side is exposed does it help limit sound?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: The tile as is limits sound via the vinyl barrier. Usually the application of this tile has the foil faced side exposed.

16) Linda M: Is the product called Soundbreak?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: It is not. This product has a mass vinyl barrier plus absorption.

17) REGINA H: Could you please tell me what the fire rating is on these panels

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: It is Class A Fire Rated.

18) Gary B: How long does it take to get this product for 2000 ft of ceiling?

Trademark Soundproofing Reply: We should be able to get it out within 2-5 business days. Please contact customer service 845-388-1200 or sales@tmsoundproofing.com
