Soundproofing Don’ts: Hiring a Consultant

One of the biggest mistakes people make when they first start to think about soundproofing is to hire an acoustical consultant. In most cases, an acoustical consultant will only tell you things that, with a little reasearch, you could have easily figured out on your own.

Don’t get us wrong. If you’re sick, too busy, want a super soundproof acoustic studio, or really don’t understand what you need to do than you may need to hire one. The problem is that your soundproofing consultant is going to follow a set systematic pattern as he reviews your home – something you could easily do yourself. You don’t need an acoustical consultant to crawl around your house or sit outside to determine noise sources.

Besides, acoustical consultants charge huge hourly fees. Your time is, for the most part, free.
