Using the right insulation will increase R-value and improve energy efficiency.  R-value refers to resistance to heat flow, the higher the R-value the greater the insulating power.  Owens Corning, EcoTouch, Pure-Fiber insulation is formulated with tiny air pockets trapped in the insulation which resist the passage of heat resulting in less heat loss in the winter and less heat gain in the summer.  Compressing the insulation will result in a loss of R-value as the air pockets are compressed (see Product Data tab for more information.)  In addition, EcoTouch insulation is designed to improve the Sound Transmission Class (STC) of walls and floor/ceiling assemblies.

EcoTouch Fiberglass Insulation is formulated with Pure Fiber Technology for a high-quality, economy friendly choice.  Our unique line of insulation is 100% Formaldehyde free and contains more than 99% natural ingredients and a minimum of 58% recycled content.

Owens Corning, EcoTouch insulation is available in both unfaced and Kraft faced options.  Kraft faced insulation has a strong asphalt-coated paper facing on one side which acts as a high-quality vapor retarder.  Vapor retarders help control the amount of moisture passing through insulation and collecting inside exterior walls, ceilings and floors.  (For more information regarding Kraft Faced Insulation, please visit.)  Unfaced insulation can be friction fit into place thereby minimizing the need for stapling or securing the batts. It is also recommended when adding a layer of insulation over an existing layer of insulation which already has a vapor retarder.

R-38 EcoTouch Insulation is recommended for attics, floors, ceilings and un-conditioned crawl spaces.  It is available in two convenient size options to fit most standard wood or metal framing cavities or can be installed between furring strips.

R38-C Class Insulation provides quality thermal performance in the limited space of cathedral ceilings, it is dimensionally stable and will not slump within the cathedral ceiling cavity.  It is designed to eliminate R-value loss caused by compressing standard R-38 products in 2X10 cathedral ceiling construction, 8 1/4" thick.  R-30C EcoTouch Insulation prevents moisture damage and helps assure long roof life by providing 1" of ventilation air space between the insulation and roof deck.

EcoTouch Insulation is easy to handle and install.  Sized for installation in either wood or metal frame construction, EcoTouch Kraft faced Insulation can be friction fit or stapled into place.  Stapling flanges are provided for standard frame widths. Trimming and fabrication can be done with an ordinary utility knife and is easily installed into odd-shaped cavities and small spaces.  To achieve optimal R-60 insulation, R-38 batts can be installed on top of existing insulation for maximum efficiency.

C-Class EcoTouch Insulation is intended for cathedral ceiling applications and can be friction fit between the rafters.  Cathedral ceiling insulation should be installed to provide a minimum of 1" ventilation passageway between the roof deck and insulation.  (See Installation Tab above for further information.)

  •  Can be easily cut and split to insulate odd shaped cavities and around outlets, switches and other small spaces.
  •  Excellent stiffness and recovery characteristics, gives off less dust than most fiberglass products.
  •  Completely fills the cavity, eliminating gaps and the need for additional handwork.
  •  Installs in minutes, can be friction fit or stapled into place.
  •  Due to its inorganic nature, it will not rot or mildew and is non-corrosive to steel, copper and aluminum.
  •  EcoLogo rated as a top environmental  choice, 100% Formaldehyde free, contains more than 99% natural ingredients, minimum of 58% recycled content.

Installation Guide

General Installation Instructions:

  • Leave insulation in its wrapper until you’re ready to use it.  Packaged insulation is highly compressed and expands greatly when the wrapper is opened.
  • Use precut batts in walls for easier handling.
  • Use continuous rolls in attics and floors because of longer joist spans.
  • To cut insulation, lay it on a board, facing down if applicable.  Lay a yardstick (or 2x4) over the area of insulation to be cut.  Press your straightedge down hard and cut with a utility knife, using the straightedge as a guide.
  • Do not install insulation on top of or within 3" of recessed light fixtures unless the fixtures are approved for such use.  This is a requirement of the National Electric Code.

Preparation Instructions:

Before beginning any insulation project, be sure to;

  • Prevent air infiltration by caulking and sealing all top and bottom plates, sealing any wire or open penetrations and weather-stripping attic access openings.
  • Gather any necessary tools.
  • Wear the proper protective gear (follow package recommendations).

R-38 Installation:

  • Always install the insulation from one end of the room to the other.
  • The vapor retarder should be placed toward the warm side of the structure in heating climates.
  • Insulate carefully around water pipes, electical wiring and boxes.
  • Insulation hangers or nylon straps can be used to hold insulation in place around joists.

R-38C Installation:

  • C-Class insulation is intended to be friction fit between wood rafters.  In applications with irregular spaced rafters, cut the batts approximately ½” wider than the space and friction fit them in place.
  • Tightly abut batts to prevent thermal leaks.
  • Provide vent openings at the eave and ridge.
  • Cathedral ceiling insulation should be installed to provide a minimum 1” ventilation passageway between the roof deck and insulation.
  • Use a vent baffle to assure proper clearance where necessary.
