Soundproofing a Rented Apartment
The other day we read a brief Q&A article from a guy who rented a flat in Europe. Because the walls are thin, he constantly has problems with noise disturbing his roommate (or vice versa). He stated that renting was a problem and meant they could not make any changes to the walls. He wanted to know what to do.
With all due respect, we think he’d be pleasantly surprised at the response of his landlord if he asked to make changes to the wall. Green Glue damping compound is not very expensive, so he and his co-tenant would definitely benefit from the changes, even if they had to pay for them out of pocket. The landlord, on the other hand, might find that his property is suddenly more valuable in terms of renting to future tenants.
It’s a win-win situation. Consider talking to your landlord if you find yourself in a similar situation.
